It has been cultivated in China since the beginning of the 19th century. In Chinese cuisine, Tremella fuciformis is traditionally used in sweet dishes. While it is tasteless, it is appreciated for its gelatinous texture as well as for its bioactive properties. It is common to make a dessert soup called luk mei (六味) in Cantonese, often in combination with tropical fruits and other ingredients. It is also used as an ingredient in a drink and as ice cream.
It is considered the mushroom of beauty because it has substances with action similar to hyaluronic acid. Used in recipes for face creams.
