Hazelnuts were cultivated in Pontus, since ancient times, they were called “Pontikon karyon” meaning “Pontus nut”. After harvesting and crushing them in mills, they were divided into three categories: the round ones (tobul), the pointed ones (sivri) and the oily ones (yagli).
