Astragalus seems to work positively in stimulating the immune system. It has antioxidant effects that prevent the production of free radicals.
In the body, free radicals damage cells and are linked to many health problems associated with aging.
Some astragalus advocates use it for its potential heart benefits. They claim it can protect against heart disease.
It is also used to improve overall weakness.
Its proponents also say it stimulates the spleen, liver, lungs, circulatory and urinary systems. It is also used to treat arthritis, asthma and nervous conditions, as well as to lower blood sugar and blood pressure.
