An ancient plant, the gingo or gingo is the only surviving plant in the ginkgo family, the ginkgo family. It occupies a special place in the evolving family tree as it is the only living link between ferns and conifers.
Today it grows mainly in areas of southwestern and eastern China, but it is also found in temples in Korea and Japan because it has symbolic significance in Confucianism.
The name comes from the Chinese word Ginkyo which means silver apricot (gin = silver, kyo = apricot).
From its leaves a medicine is prepared, which is used in the treatment of various circulatory diseases. In Chinese medicine, its fruit has always been used for its antitussive, digestive and diuretic properties.
