Polycarp Cough Leaf Herb
It is a perennial plant that has a thick rhizome from which hairy flower shoots emerge in spring, scale-like, with a head of yellow tongue-shaped flowers, male in the center and female at the tips. The yellow color of the flowers is due to the xanthophyll they contain. The height of the plant ranges from 10 to 25 cm. The leaves come out after flowering (for the reason in Latin it was also called “filius ante patrem” which means – the son before the father). The fruit has the form of a white plume and vaguely resembles a donkey’s foot. Grows in cool and moist clay-lime soils.
