Menopause – In Britain, herbalists use sage to treat the symptoms of menopause, such as hot flashes. According to a preliminary German study, in patients with hyperhidrosis, sage leaf, either dried or infused, reduced perspiration by as much as 50%.
Antimicrobial activity – In vitro (in a test tube) experiments have shown that sage oil has antibacterial, antimicrobial and antiviral properties, which explains its traditional use in the treatment of sore throat, mouth ulcers and gingivitis. Sage is also extremely effective in fighting candida (Canditaalbicans), herpes II and influenza II.
Strengthen the digestive system – It has a valuable sedative effect in cases of indigestion, as it dissolves stomach gases. From 1842 to 1916 sage was the main and official ingredient of the British pharmaceutical industry, due to its tonic, astringent, aromatic and generally beneficial properties for the digestive system.
Antioxidant activity – Rosemary acid, contained in sage, has several interesting biological activities such as antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. The antioxidant power of sage ingredients is similar to that of alpha tocopherol.
