What are the benefits of valerian?
Valerian is used to treat sleep disorders and especially insomnia. It is often combined with hops, lemon, balsam, or other herbs that also cause drowsiness. Many even replace sleeping pills with valerian.
But this is not the only use of valerian. It is also used for psychological disorders such as pathological anxiety and stress, for problems such as nervous asthma, hysterical states, irritability, fear of disease (hypochondria), headache, migraines and stomach disorders.
Many people also use valerian as a remedy for depression, epilepsy, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). Valerian is also preferred for muscle and joint pain, while many women experience period cramps and menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes and anxiety while drinking valerian.
Valerian is also added to bath water to help us relax and deal with sleep disorders more effectively. Valerian extracts and oils are also used as a seasoning in food and beverages. Does taking valerian cause side effects?
Valerian usually does not cause side effects, but in rare cases it can cause headaches in some people after taking valerian. It can also cause headache, upset stomach, anxiety or tachycardia.
